|<\/strong> October 20, 2020 at 4:20 PM EDT – Updated October 20 at 4:55 PM<\/p>\n\n\n\nGUYTON, Ga. (WTOC) – For this small police department in Effingham County, they\u2019ve seen their fair share of hard times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the future is now looking bright for the Guyton Police Department. In fact, you might not even recognize them and to be honest, that\u2019s kind of the point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOne of the first things I talked about when I was campaigning was the little things in town that needed immediate attention and first and foremost was the police department,\u201d said Guyton Mayor Russ Deen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first step, bringing in new Chief James Breletic back in March, who got right to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI told my officers when I got here, I don\u2019t look at sandstorms I look at horizons,\u201d said Chief Breletic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first thing on the horizon – the building itself. Starting with a fresh coat of paint and adding space for things evidence and an interview room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From there they added two new officers, new vehicles, and a new look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019re changing the scheme of our law enforcement package. In the past they were black a dull color. Now we\u2019re bright, you\u2019re able to see us down the street and we want to be seen,\u201d said Chief Breletic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Changes made to help them better protect their community, and hopefully restore a since of pride in the department, and their town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen you extend that pride outward it shows the city that we\u2019re there, we care for you and we need your support,\u201d Chief Breletic says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Small steps in the right direction giving Mayor Deen confidence in what they\u2019re building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLittle changes all add up to one big change and that\u2019s a department we can trust, a department we know is going to protect and serve our citizens and be a blessing on our city. I am very grateful for their work and dedication.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While the department is bringing in plenty of new things this year, Chief Breletic says there\u2019s one thing that still won\u2019t be welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe only thing is, if you\u2019re going to break the law I suggest you go elsewhere, cause we\u2019ll get you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief Breletic says the next thing he\u2019s hoping to bring to the department is lap top computers in their cruisers to help keep more officers on the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\nCopyright 2020 WTOC.
