Community Policing
Chief Breletic started a new physical fitness program called “Get Out of the Car” where the Chief and the officers walk about and introduce themselves passing out business cards to business owners, schools, church members, and communities. Previously to this program, officers only drove through the city and did not interact with citizens. This program gave the Chief and officers the opportunity to know the people in the city and bridge the gap between the citizens and the police. Citizens felt more comfortable to report suspicious or criminal activities as a result of this program. The public trust was built by citizens being able to put a face with the Chief and the Police Officers.
Community Volunteering
Chief Breletic and officers continued the expansion of community policing by helping work festivals, special events, church events, fourth of July events, holiday events.
Community Service
Chief Breletic started a Community Service program where citizens, who were unable to pay their fines in city court, were able to convert it into community hours where they would work in the city. This program provided an alternative payment for citizens while saving the city thousands of dollars in wages. Types of services included:
- Cutting grass
- Planting flowers and plants
- Working holidays and special events
- Baking cookies for special events
- Elementary school projects
- General overall maintenance of the city
- Picking up trash
